Yes, it's great to be able to stay in touch with your family and friends. It can also be a powerful tool to raise awareness of an issue or drum up support for good cause or two. But it's also a platform that facilitates the spread of massive misinformation on scale we've never seen before. Users inadvertently (or purposefully depending on whose POV) get pulled into digital echo chambers where they happily consume ever more radicalizing bullshit every day. Content that is then reinforced and regurgitated by "influencers" and talking heads on television. It's not about finding and analyzing diverse viewpoints and content, where the information is factual and from a trusted source. It's about click-baity titles that will play off your existing opinions and baser instincts.   

This isn't even touching on those who are addicted to social media and always being connected, the cyber bullying, peer pressure, unrealistic standards, attention seeking, and who knows what else. 

I agree completely.
