So we had an in-house lottery, but due to war and the like it kind of died. Do you want it back? Would you actually play it? Tell me your feelings.

Here is a post from Val's initial introduction. If we bring it back we can make changes, but the way he has it set up now is pretty good.

"Hello SK!

Today I introduce the lottery system. Lottery numbers will only be chosen once a month on the 1st.

Here's the link: Lottery System

Current Status: Status

Here's how it works:

You can buy tickets for $5,000 each. Deposit the amount equal to the number of tickets purchased (each entry is 1 ticket).

You have 5 numbers to choose and a bonus. They are as follows:
1: 1-10,
2: 1-20,
3: 1-30,
4: 1-40,
5: 1-50,
Bonus: 1-20

The payouts increase as more entries are added.

The initial base payouts are per each correct based on probably chance of correct answer as follows:
1: $2,500
2: $10,000
3: $22,500
4: $40,000
5: $62,500

The formula for each is:

(250+entries)/(chance of correct)

Bonus will multiply winnings by 2.

The maximum possible BASE is: $42,194,971.17

This increases fast as more entries are placed."

I believe Cody meant to say give it to me, but otherwise his premise is sound.

I would like to see instead of a lottery do a 75/25 raffle. In this way, the pot is guaranteed to be distributed every time. My suggestion for the 75/25 is:

Drawing 1

Each ticket costs $1 million.

100 tickets are sold, so the pot is $100 million.

Winner of the raffle receives $75 million. The remaining $25 million is allocated for the next pot.

Drawing 2

Pot starts @ $25 million

Each ticket costs $1 million

100 tickets are sold, so the pot is $125 million.

Winner of the raffle receives $94 million. The remaining $31 million is allocated for the next pot.

Drawing 3

Pot starts @ $31 million

Each ticket costs $1 million

100 tickets are sold, so the pot is $131 million.

Winner of the raffle receives $98 million. The remaining $33 million is allocated for the next pot.

Drawing 4

Pot starts @ $33 million

Each ticket costs $1 million

100 tickets are sold, so the pot is $133 million.

Winner of the raffle receives $100 million. The remaining $33 million is allocated for the next pot.

By using this method, even if we get a low turnout, we'll still have a pot to work with. I would also suggest we make it a weekly thing. So, for example:

Drawing 5

Pot starts @ $33 million

20 tickets are sold, so the pot is $53 million.

Winner of the raffle receives $40 million. The remaining $13 million is allocated for the next pot.

Drawing 6

Pot starts @ $13 million

2 tickets are sold, so the pot is $15 million.

Winner of the raffle receives $10 million. The remaining $5 million is allocated for the next pot.

Drawing 7

Pot starts @ $5 million

300 tickets are sold, so the pot is $305 million.

Winner of the raffle receives $229 million. The remaining $76 million is allocated for the next pot.

Drawing 8

Pot starts @ $76 million

30 tickets are sold, so the pot is $105 million.

Winner of the raffle receives $79 million. The remaining $26 million is allocated for the next pot.

We could also implement a minimum participation, so like, if there are less than 50 tickets then 100% of the pot gets carried over to next week, aka the Pot is the winner.

I was thinking about re-constructing it so that it will only draw random numbers from those that people have entered in. Duplicates from the same user would be ignored, but separate users with the same number would not be ignored, and instead split the pot if they won.

It'd be very easy to setup from the system already in place. I know more gdoc-ing so the automation is simple for me to create.

Otherwise I like your idea. I can implement that easily enough.
