So the beta for Archeage ended recently and I decided to give it a try. I have to say I am really enjoying it, and I was wondering if anyone else in SK is playing it? If there are enough of us I'd be tempted to make a little SK guild
For those who don't know about it, Archeage (alternately Queuage) is a sandboxy mmo from Korea recently localized for the west. There are three continents, western continent is medieval style, houses the elves and humans. Eastern continent is asian styled (very varied though, with cities in chinese, japanese, indian and middle eastern styles), home to humans and cat-people (basically khajiit from what I can tell). Only a few areas in the third continent are currently accessable, and everywhere there is PvP. You can still build houses and things though.
Gameplay is not very focussed on PvE stuff if thats your thing though, quests are fairly lackluster. Mostly revolves around either the economy or PvP. Farming (trees and various goods are needed for houses, ships, and a lot of other stuff) and crafting (you can only get eh goods from quests, the best stuff is player made) and making trade runs. I mostly play raiding people of the other faction when they do trade runs to steal their trade goods for myself.
It is technically F2P, but certain things require a sub to do. Subs can be bought with in-game gold though, like PLEX in EVE. Free players cannot build houses (not really necessary for the game, but fun to have) or place private farms (you can plant small stuff on public farms in the towns, or try and plant stuff just anywhere in the game world. Other players who stumble upon your farms in the wild can take your stuff though, so you have to be clever with hiding it). You can use the house and farms of friends who have subs though. Everything else is available.
Personally I'd say you want to sub if you do play, either by paying or just saving up after a few weeks to buy it in-game, and just use your free player time to test it out.
